FDSN web services and instant synthetic seismograms for Mars

Seismicity catalog, continuous waveforms and FDSN web services:

We distribute precalculated continuous synthetic seismograms for a seismicity catalog consisting of 120 events, considering double-couple source mechanisms only. These waveforms are available both with and without realistic seismic noise, and are produced for two structural Mars models.

More information can be found at http://synthetics.mars.ethz.ch/. This URL is our main web server that hosts FDSN web services. The landing page contains information on our seismicity catalog for Mars, synthetic waveforms and using FDSN web services to access the waveform, station, and event data. These services are the preliminary version of web services that the MarsQuake Service will utilize for distributing the Martian seismicity catalog in practice.

Generating on-demand synthetic waveforms:

In order to allow InSight science team compute on-demand synthetic seismograms, The ETH Zurich also stores Green’s functions databases produced for 16 Martian structural background models.

The databases are hosted at http://instaseis.ethz.ch/marssynthetics/, and can be accessed using a database name from the table below combined with this URL. The landing web page contains a list all databases with their properties, and instructions for generating synthetic seismograms for any customised source/receiver pair.
